I feel sure that one of the factors that has held modern jazz back from wider acceptance in the UK(compared say with Germany and the States) has been the absence of any good Jazz magazines.
Current publications seem to be afflicted by all or some common failings:
1. To focus on American musicians and music as if it were the "real thing"
2. To be inconsolably cliquey
3. To have bad design faults
With the development of Jazzwise magazine there seems to be some hope of a genuinely entertaining open minded Jazz magazine which is great.
A bi-monthly at £4.10 with a free CD lets hope that it manages to survive financially in this tricky but vital market - and congrats to the publication team for being awarded " The Jazz Publication of the Year Award 2007".
