I am growing in appreciation for M's Catholic colleague.
Not only did he spot the danger signs and respond responsibly and creatively, but he has kept contact since in a way that I and other involved are unable to.
Every day he has called at The Vicarage and left two gifts each time :
The first has been something which one might call a "pick-me-up" - a loan CD, some delicious chocolate etc.
The second gift has been a picture and brief description of a Christian hero with a prayer at the bottom.
After several days M has been wondering what the link between the cards was.
Today he found out when he got a card with his own picture on, a description of what his RC neighbour had appreciated about his ministry - and a prayer at the bottom which basically said that there were plenty of martyrs in the Church already, and that M did not need to join the number!!
For the first time tonight on the phone M was laughing again - his value to his colleague made clear, and the point that who he "is" is more valuable than what he "does".
- and he assures me he has said "NO" three times today.
Thank God for the wisdom and creativity of tht RC priest, and for the gift of laughter as well.
Things to learn...
