If the possible schism between the newly categorised "Covenanted Evangelicals" and the rest (I hesitate to say mainstream) Anglicans within the Church of England and the Nigerian Virginian Anglicans and there erstwhile landlords were not enough I was saddened to read of a similarly serious schism emerging with the Episcopal Church of Scotland.
In a similar way to the apparently truthful (don't you just love it when Christians claim to be speaking in truth!) words of The Covenant and similar statements emerging from love-the-sinner hate-the-sin to save Christian marriage Archbishops in Nigeria it is important to read beyond the post and pick up the nuances of the debate in the comments.
I understand that the Bishop of Durham is expected to produce a 22 page critique of the original post by Christmas Day at the very latest.
Go read the detail here
PS while researching the doctrine behind the Scottish schism I found this fundamentally liberal solution to the schism on sale with our Anglican brothers and sisters in Canada - in addition to the red, white and pink candles which have been previously mentioned - perhaps the blue might be representing how we all may being feeling and the brown representing the s**t we might all be in - if we don't move on to more core topics like the mission and the love of God.
"See how they love one another!!"
