Not sure that I ever got into Dire Straits - but I have grown to love Mark Knopfler's solo work ever since I had the pleasure of working with him on a Prince's Trust project. Road to Philladelphia has always been a favourite - and now I have picked up his 2004 CD Shangrila for £4.99 at Sainsburys.
There is something very unpretentious about the music and the words - but the level of musicianship is inspiring - and that guitar sound ~with just a touch of distortion is surely one of the most distintive in contemporary music. Go listen folks
What I love about Knopfler's solos is that they seem to fit in with the overall song and not take it over, and leap out of it into a solo on its own.
